Best Places to Elope in Central Florida: An Officiant's Favorite Wedding Spots
One of my favorite things about being an Orlando elopement officiant is that couples let me in on the question they've been quietly Googling for weeks: where should we actually do this?
Central Florida makes eloping almost unfairly easy. There's no waiting period for out-of-state couples, no witnesses required, and within an hour's drive of Orlando you can say your vows under 400-year-old oaks, beside a spring so clear it looks Photoshopped, or barefoot at sunrise on the Atlantic. These are the spots I return to again and again, and what I've learned officiating at each of them.
Garden Ceremonies
Kraft Azalea Garden, Winter Park
A small lakeside park with towering cypress trees draped in Spanish moss and a marble exedra that frames a ceremony like it was built for exactly that. Sunset here, with the light coming off Lake Maitland, is the single most requested backdrop I get. It's a public park, so you'll need a small event permit through the City of Winter Park. Check their current requirements before you set a date.
Harry P. Leu Gardens, Orlando
Fifty acres of camellias, roses, and old Florida canopy just minutes from downtown. Leu Gardens offers ceremony rentals in several spots on the property, so you get a genuinely private feel without leaving the city. A beautiful option if your elopement includes a handful of guests.
Bok Tower Gardens, Lake Wales
Worth the drive. The singing tower, the long reflecting views, the Olmsted-designed landscape. Bok Tower offers intimate ceremony options on the grounds, and the carillon bells during golden hour are something couples talk about for years.
Springs, Rivers, and Wild Florida
Wekiwa Springs State Park, Apopka
Emerald water, sandy banks, and that particular hush that old Florida does better than anywhere. Morning ceremonies here are magic, before the swimmers arrive. State parks require advance permission for ceremonies, so contact the park office early.
Kelly Park / Rock Springs, Apopka
A natural lazy river fed by a spring that stays 68 degrees year-round. It's playful, gorgeous, and perfect for couples whose love story includes the words "and then we jumped in." Arrive early. This park famously hits capacity on warm weekends.
If a ritual rooted in nature speaks to you, these locations pair beautifully with a handfasting ceremony. Cords, moss, spring water, ancient trees. It all belongs together.
Beach Elopements Within Reach
New Smyrna Beach
About an hour from Orlando and my pick for couples who want the classic barefoot-in-the-sand moment without the crowds of the bigger beach towns. Sunrise ceremonies here are quiet, golden, and unhurried.
Cocoa Beach
The closest true beach to Orlando, which makes it ideal for couples squeezing an elopement into a theme park trip. Yes, that's a real and wonderful category of couple, and I adore them.
Most Florida beaches allow small ceremonies, but permit rules vary by city and county, so check with the local municipality once you've picked your stretch of sand.
In the Heart of Orlando
Lake Eola Park
The swan boats, the fountain, the skyline. If your love story is an Orlando story, this is the postcard version of it. Downtown ceremonies need a City of Orlando permit, and weekday mornings are your friend here.
Your Airbnb, Backyard, or Hotel Balcony
Honestly? Some of my favorite elopements have happened twelve feet from where the couple slept the night before. Florida law doesn't care about the venue. It cares that you both declare your intent in front of your officiant. A private rental with a good view and zero logistics is a legitimately great choice.
A Few Things I Tell Every Eloping Couple
Book your location before your date is emotional. Permits and rental slots go faster than people expect, especially October through April.
Plan around Florida, not against it. Summer means a ceremony before 9am or in that golden window before sunset. Afternoon thunderstorms are practically scheduled.
Let your ceremony be the main event. Eloping doesn't mean shrinking your ceremony. It means distilling it. Your vows, your story, maybe a ritual that means something to you. That's the part you'll remember, and it's the part I'd love to create with you.
